UK’s Top 25 Buy to Let Hot Spots
According to experts, property investment is all about location, location, and location. That’s why picking the right place to buy a home to rent out is so important.
Specialist analysts at Aldermore Bank, a buy-to-let lender, have compiled a list of where landlords have earned the best long-term yields from house price growth over the past decade (December 2019).
The City Tracker also looked at places with high numbers of renters and low numbers of empty homes.
The top 25 buy-to-let hot spots are listed below by region. Oxford took the number one place, followed by Manchester, Edinburgh and London, with little daylight between the trio.
Oxford has the most significant number of homes to let in England, with 28% of the population renting privately and single rooms in shared houses generating around £596 a month.
The rankings have notable absentees, such as Liverpool, Bristol, Exeter, York and Brighton.
Damian Thompson, director of mortgages at Aldermore Bank, said:
“The tracker shows there are still great short and long-term investment opportunities for landlords.
“The number of people renting in the UK has been rapidly growing, up 1.7 million in 10 years, so private landlords are an increasingly central part of the housing market as supporting a robust and strong private rented sector becomes more essential.
“The UK housing market has never been a singular thing, instead made up of multiple smaller markets with their own unique conditions and challenges. There have been numerous regulatory changes recently and persistent economic uncertainty but this affects every region differently.”
