How to Rent Guide Updated for Tenant Fees Ban

Today (1 June 2019), the Tenant Fees Act 2019 commences in England.

To coincide with this, the legally required How to rent: the checklist for renting in England has been updated.

This How to Rent guide is the prescribed information that must be given to all new tenants and renewing tenancies if the guide has changed since it was last given.

The updates give the tenant information about the new tenant fees ban and include brief details on the new deposit cap and holding deposits.

Prescribed Information (How to Rent Guide)

Not to be confused with tenancy deposit prescribed information, for all assured shorthold tenancies granted on or after 1 October 2015, including renewals, a landlord or landlord's agent must give the tenant the following information – the version of the document entitled “How to rent: the checklist for renting in England”, as published by the Department for Communities and Local Government, that has effect for the time being.
